New England Gem Lab in the News!

Should You Cash in on Your Old Jewelry? | ABC 6 | News

ABC6 Reporter Julie Ruditzky brought her cameraman to visit New England Gem Lab in the Old Lyme, Connecticut location, as part of an ongoing investigation on the recent “Gold Rush” of consumers liquidating their unwanted jewelry and precious metal items.

Cindy Konney, Independent Certified Gemologist Appraiser from New England Gem Lab,  showed them how gold was tested and how dealers arrive at pricing the unwanted goods.  Prices do vary, and it is extremely important that you know what it is you are selling.

For metals, some questions you need to ask are:

Is it 14kt?  18kt?  Platinum? Or Sterling?

What is the weight of the metals?

What percentage of gold is in 14kt or 18kt?gold-jewlery-snake

It is always a good idea to get several prices before proceeding with a sale. Most clients will usually accept the first offer given to them.  They just want to be over and done with it.  But, whether the jewelry you want to sell is all metal, or a piece with gemstones, a little homework could bring you a much larger return.

New England Gem Lab has services to help the consumer broker goods.

It may be a very good idea to set up an appointment with New England Gem Lab to explore all your possibilities. This way, you can move forward with an educated decision.  Make sure that piece you are selling for scrap metal does not have a much larger intrinsic value!
