What Is the American Gem Society?CT and MA Gem and Jewelry Appraisal

The American Gem Society is a not-for-profit trade association of fine jewelers, appraisers, jewelry manufacturers and suppliers in the United States, Canada, and Europe who are dedicated to consumer protection, ethical business standards, and development of the highest gemological skills and knowledge.

Independent Certified Gemologist Appraisal (ICGA) firms carry the CGA credentials to another level. They are independent appraisal firms that specialize in the appraisal of gems and jewelry. ICGA appraisers are qualified to provide insurance appraisals as well as more challenging appraisal assignments such as probate, equitable distribution, resale and divorce.

This elite group ICGA firms, do not buy or sell jewelry, they are dedicated to providing their clients with reliable and professional independent appraisal services. The appraisal education and experience required of the ICGA firms surpass the retailer CGA requirements. We are the authority.

Many ICGA firm applicants are also at the top of their profession in other appraisal Organizations, such as the American Society of Appraisers, Accredited Gemologists Association and the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers.

Interstate 95, Take Exit 70

Coming from the East of Old Lyme take a left at the end of the exit 70 ramp.  Go 0.65 of a mile and you will find us on the right at #24 behind the E. F. Watermelon storefront, across from the Cooley Gallery. It is just past the Old Lyme Ice Cream Shop and just before the old Catholic Church.

Coming from west of Old Lyme and the Connecticut River.  Exit 70 and at the end of the exit ramp take a right.  Just down the road is a yellow blinking light.  Take a left onto Ferry Road.  This is a very short street and ends on Lyme Street, the heart of the Old Lyme Historic District.  Take a left at the end of Ferry Road and we are down about a block or so just past the old Catholic Church and behind the E. F. Watermelon storefront (a very fine custom jewelry design gallery), across from the Cooley Gallery.

Look for us under the green awning. If you are coming from a distance there is plenty to see and do in Old Lyme.  Also on Lyme Street are the Florence Griswold Museum, The Lyme Art Academy and The Lyme Art Association.  The Bee and Thistle Inn and The Old Lyme Inn, offer superb dining experiences.  The Old Lyme Ice Cream Shop makes their own ice cream and also offers a wonderful light fare.

We can schedule an appointment at our office, your home or your off-site location to suit your needs.
